So, I have been having fun today reading conspiracy theory websites since this morning, and in the midst of my adventures came across a phenomenal image that I had to share. Full-size image after the jump.
Now, sadly my browser decided to throw a hissy-fit after I was browsing some website or other that was talking about anomalies on photographs of the moon – all pretty silly stuff.
I was getting a bit sick of images of the lunar surface that were magnified 10,000 times from the original blurry image and had subtitles proclaiming that that a tiny grey blob, pretty much indistingushable from all the tiny grey blobs around it were obviously massive tubes and pipes leading into a cavern/buildings/roads within quarries proving that there is mining taking place on the moon which is also therefore proof undeniable of a secret tri-lateral shadow world government and a whole space programme that we aren’t being told about!!! (and by tri-lateral they mean, U.S., Russia and, yes, you guessed it, ALIENS!)
Gimme a break. You can see why trawling through conspiracy theory stuff offers me a fun pastime. You should have been reading some of the crap I have all week. People can be so dumb.
Anyway, to get to the point, amongst all the nonsense was a phenomenal image of the moon, taken apparently by some normal civilian astronomer using a 10-inch telescope. Or something. Now, I tried to search the website for information to credit the astronomer, but had some problems. I tried to back-track from the page with the image that I was on by the tried and tested method of deleting the subdirectories off the URL to work backwards as I had opened the image in a new tab and long since moved awway from the page that had the original link.
Problem was, at one point I lopped a sub-directory off, got to an Apache server directory list, and then was promptly redirected to a page that warned me that I was attempting to access an “Authorized Access Only” area. Then I got re-directed again, only this time to the FBI homepage. How odd. Then I found that my browser was no longer working, and my internet connection seemed to have died. So I rebooted. And as a result, have no recollection of where the hell the website was (following threads on conspiracy theory sites can lead you through many, many different sites, and you lose track of where the hell you are. That’s the fun!).
So, anyway, to get to the point, click here for the full-size image of our Moon. It’s a .png file, 15meg, but the beauty of this breathtaking picture is worth the time if you are on a slow connection.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I will have to go and panic about the fact I was dumped onto the FBI website and then cut off. Hmm, there’s the doorbell. Is it MIB’s??
(Somewhat ironically, as I was typing that sentence above the doorbell actually rang, and made me jump…but it was the guy delivering my rather large and unweildy “Giant Kebab Meal” for dinner).
